The Parish Council commissioned this survey from Midlands Rural Housing (MRH) based on their experience of small rural communities, the survey process, and the analysis of survey data.
The survey was one of three used in Hazelwood Parish to gather information which would ultimately support the creation of the Hazelwood Neighbourhood Plan. It has subsequently become clear to the Parish Council that there is confusion in the Parish regarding the MRH survey, and we feel it important that our assumptions are clarified.
The use of the word “needs” in the survey title implies an urgency which sets it ahead of the other surveys. We consider all to be equally significant.
The survey was not intended to deliver a single defining strategy for future housing mix in Hazelwood. It was always to be considered alongside the directions defined in the other two surveys regarding design, landscape etc.
The survey was intended to identify the drivers for future housing mix and their relative importance as expressed in the survey by the numbers of responses.
In their introduction to the survey MRH state that “the information from the survey will be used to inform and support the Neighbourhood Plan which is being drawn up for the Parish”. This is a reasonable summary of our expectations.
The survey will in the future be described as the MRH Housing Survey. The Parish Council believe this will avoid any unhelpful issues of emphasis.
